Funding FAQs

How do we receive funds?
We receive funds from donations via this website, checks made out to Masks For Vashon, and cash donations.  Donations are deposited into our Masks For Vashon account at Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union (PSCCU).
Who Does Masks For Vashon Support?
Well made, reusable masks are sewn and distributed to Vashon residents, medical & non-medical caregivers, postal workers, first responders, school meal programs, bus drivers, grocery store staff, childcare workers, nonprofits, essential needs businesses, and more, by an all volunteer crew.
Additionally, Masks For Vashon supports the following island businesses by purchasing materials and services from them:  Island Quilter, PSCCU, Suds, ACE, Thriftway, and Vashon Print & Design.
How Funds Are Used?
Masks For Vashon funds are used to purchase supplies and support services, such as fabric, elastic, other tie material, nose wires, thread, machine needles, machine repairs when needed, and laundry service.  While some fabric and materials have been donated, donated materials can not support the large quantity of masks Masks For Vashon aims to make and distribute.
How Much Does It Cost To Produce Masks? The cost to create our latest mask version is between $4-$5 each mask for fabric, an inner 3rd layer material, tie material, flat nose wire, thread, beads, etc., and fluctuates slightly based on cost of materials available and used.
What Are Your Accounting Practices?
Masks For Vashon’s management and leadership team oversees the physical and financial contributions of its donors. All material and production expenses are accounted for and supported with the donated funds in our Masks For Vashon account at our island’s Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union (PSCCU).
What will happen to any unused funds in the Masks For Vashon’s account at PSCCU when this project is over?
If there are any funds remaining in our account at PSCCU when Masks ForV ashon is finished with this project, those funds will be spent buying materials to make our last batch of masks and/or will be donated to an island charity or charities.
